After reading the story, it is clear that the company has lost what they one had, Leadership. It is both, in business and in company HQ. Nokia is facing the lender’s syndrome, you have invested so much in someone or something that you can’t let go of it now. Nokia has built a system around symbian. With the Ovi store, they tried to replicate Apple App Store and Android Market. They failed probably  because they didn’t realize that the people who are buying their phones are not the ones who are interested in applications. The typical Nokia customer now is one who wants a phone with basic features, a device useful for voice communications.
Someone who has the money to spend on applications may as well buy an iPhone or a phone running Android, something that has an established ecosystem. Windows Mobile 6.5 with Titanium and what not was a flop because it didn’t have all that I want from my HD2, and more. I run Android on my phone because it gives me the power to write this post, something that I can’t do on Windows Mobile. Despite being a Windows mobile fan, I had to choose Android because it has the flexibility and expandibility to adapt to my needs.
Nokia needs to rethink and probably drop MeeGo and symbian.

If you can’t beat them, join them!

i was watching the pretty Windows 7 launch videos and pictures from various Microsoft sites around the world. I wanted to find out what was happening in India and to my surprise, Microsoft India didn’t even mention Windows 7 on their Windows Home Page!

The Windows Site has ‘Highlights’ – Small Business: Upgrade to Windows Vista with Confidence

Microsoft India

Funny a company like Microsoft forgot to mention Windows 7. Having said that, I guess even MS would not know what web properties they have around the world! Elephants can’t Dance Saala!

PS: As you can see from the screenshot, I happily use Windows 7, Live Writer, and I love Microsoft!

Got my blog started! Credits…

On March 22, 2009, in Personal, by shashank

Finally, I have managed to get this blog up and running. I have been thinking about creating my own blog instead of using the Live Spaces service by Microsoft.

I wish to thank a few people for this. Foremost is WordPress, for the most beautiful piece of code that I have ever seen. They are correct, code is poetry! Then I would like to thank Jai Nischal Verma from Blog Oh! Blog, for the wonderful theme that I am using here. And finally, I wish to thank Paint.net, the one software that makes editing images easy. The logo of this website has been created using Paint.net.

There are a few things that I need to do before I can consider this complete. I need to look for a few plugins so that I can ensure that this blog works the way I expect it to. Then I need to see if the widgets in WordPress are working correctly. I need to add the Akismet code to save myself from all the spam that is going to be generated. Lastly, I need to check if this setup will work with Windows Live Writer or not.

So much for it!
